Environmental Introduction
At Laine Furnishings we have been working extremely hard implementing changes to
minimise
our impact on the environment.
Laine Furnishings continues to encompass environmental sustainability in all aspects of our
business. Our main philosophy when it comes to environmental sustainability is to consider the
5 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Repair and Restore. We strive to reduce our resource
consumption by following this criteria and are constantly assessing our internal practices.
As part of the Laine Furnishings team we have a Principal Environmental Consultant
(qualified Green Star Accredited Professional) who regularly implements new initiatives
into our business practices.
We have implemented many environmentally sustainable changes, green power is used in our
offices and showrooms. Laine Furnishings takes its responsibility for the protection of the
environment and the
sustainability of its business very seriously. To help us in the fight against
climate change we have partnered with Greenfleet. Greenfleet is the first not-for-profit forestry
organisation in
Australia to become an Approved Abatement Provider under the Australian
Government’s
Greenhouse Friendly™ initiative. We also consider the smaller initiatives equally
as important, from
using recycled paper, cutting down the paper usage to using environmentally sustainable
cleaning products and switching off individual lights while they are not required.
We support the Australian Conservation Foundation and also donate % of sales to Breast
Cancer Australia as part of our social responsibility program. We also like to support community
group initiatives, such as Earth Hour and Planet Ark’s National Tree Planting Day.
We have a number of environmental ranges, both upholstery and screen fabrics –
Terratex (Life, Moguls, Pure and Escape) are part of the textile division of the Interface Group.
Our newest ranges are Eco Intelligence and Crypton Green. Crypton Green has been
manufactured with ISO 14001/EMS, are heavy commercial, recycled content and have been
tested as low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound). and are recyclable, with MBDC Cradle to
Cradle Silver Certification – perfect for the healthcare environment. Eco Intelligence achieves
a Gold rating through MBDC Cradle to Cradle certification and have also been tested low
VOC Eco Intelligence is available also with a Nanotex finish (Spill and Stain resistant)
In 2003 Laine Furnishings commissioned RMIT-Centre of Design to conduct a Life Cycle
Assessment (LCA) on our complete range of fabrics. Taking into consideration environmental
factors, greenhouse gas emissions, land-use, water-use, toxicity, recycled content, recyclability,
durability and manufacturing standards, EMS/IS0 14001.
With this detailed assessment we have created an Environmental Rating System (ERS)
to assist designers in making a more informed choice when specifying
environmental fabrics.
Environmental sustainability is a continual journey for us and much of our success is attributed to the willingness of our staff to embrace this sustainable culture .
